Come Thou Fount

You know how sometimes you sit and analyze yourself and think about some of your superficial faults and think, "Oh, if only I weren't this way, this would happen for me," or "If I didn't have this physical problem, so and so would like me." Then, for some reason, whether it be through your own tenacity or through sheer luck, that problem goes away. Then you still have the junky job or the boy doesn't like you and you wonder, "Maybe it's just me, maybe he just doesn't like me," because some other guy is blowin' up your phone with his love texts and you're sitting there mooning over the person who doesn't even think twice about you and you realize that the guy you don't like likes you just the way you are and who you think you really want is dumb. It's way late at night when I'm writing this so I don't know if I'm making sense. All of a sudden, you realize that you need help and that help isn't going to come from your mom or your job or the attentions of the guy that's never going to give you attention and you wonder why you haven't talked to God in so long and how the answers are really easy but you're too stubborn to see them, so you let it all go and shape up and talk to the being who created you in all your glory and selfishness and you go ahead and accept yourself a little more and love your follies because they make you who you are. This papercut comes from a line in the song Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing and I really should read verses before I spend hours cutting them out of paper because it really goes "Here's my heart, O take and seal it," but I think it matches the hymn just as well with the word Lord in there. I've loved this song for ages. It sums up my weekend and it comforts me.

Oh dear!! I LOVE THIS!!! Is this going to be available in your etsy shop?

Blessings on you, dear...I've been where you are in that paragraph and you are absolutely right to turn to God, because He is the only comfort.

Hugs,
Andrea

Why is it that the simple advice is the best advice? Good musings. Good message. Good papercut.

Andrea, thanks for your kindness. I think I'll make this one available too. I need to get on the ball!

Bug girl, I guess it's one of those "look to the staff and live" kind of things. So simple.

Hi Cindy! This papercut is great and the graphic designer in me says that you can (in prints you may want to make later?) highlight the "O" in "LORD" and make it match both versions: the lyrics in your head and the actual ones.

On a side note, this "mixing" the words was a good one! And it´s a great papercut, if I may repeat myself.

Ooo...Billy, that's a good idea! I'll have to see how that will work. Thanks!

I love that you shared the whole thought process here....and you aren't alone. Love your papercut too, and the process behind it. And thanks for the reminder too about spending time with God - it keeps popping up and I'm thinking I need to pay attention.

Isn't it true more often than not that those still hours of the night (or wee hours of the morning) is when what God is trying to tell you comes through loud and clear? Maybe it has something to do with us getting lost in the hustle and bustle of what goes on in the daytime, I dunno. Anyway, I love that hymn too (and it is now stuck in my head, thanks) along with your papercut.

I love when a paper cut not only is beautiful but has deeper meaning, and once again you have accomplished that. thank you for sharing your heart. Love the cut, but, even more, Love that you're allowing God to touch your heart. That is the most important thing we could ever do in this life... let Him touch us, and live always seeking His face. "Trust and Surrender" has been a constant theme in my life, and so this cut definitely appeals to me. thank you. and... love hymns. thanks for todays reminder of this one... Blessings to you along your daily journeys.

This is my favorite hymn. Thanks for the art and the thoughts behind it!

Thank you guys for all your kind thoughts.

Jackie, I know. It's the regular day to day living that has me forgetting half the time. I need to be more grateful.

Sasparilla, I also find that driving long distances helps the communication too. Maybe it's just that we get so bogged down in our lives and forget to meditate. Oh, and this hymn has been stuck in my head for quite a long time now. I need to do another papercut to get it out, but I'm pretty happy with it being in there.

Perillo, thanks, and I hope things are going wonderfully for you over there in Italy.

Meredith, I wish I lived closer to you too.

Rachel, you're welcome!

I am back to say that i think about this cut often... Just had to look at it again and re-focus on what really matters in this life, keeping myself aligned in God's plans and flexible to His teachings. sigh... Love it.

I looove this one. I was wondering if you sell the design for crafters (like me) to be able to use it for a template for scherenschnitte... personal use of course.

Your work is absolutely beautiful and a lost art. My mom did this when I was younger and I've always loved it.

Hi Cindy, This is my favorite Hymn! I am trying my hand at scherenschnitte and actually posted yesterday with a youtube video that YOU made. How fun that today, I should "meet" you. Snippety Gibbet left me a comment and I found you from her place. Well, I am sure you've been told many times that you are most talented and gifted in your art. I have only scanned a few of your posts and I am just in awe. I will be back again!
Kindly, ldh
