How To Scherenschnitte

So my friend works at the Gallery of Contemporary Art, UCCS, and asked me to make a How-to video of papercutting. Here I talk about different types of paper, tools and techniques I use in the art of papercutting.

Here's the template used in the above video. Enjoy*! Download Free Squirrel Scherenschnitte.

*But don't enjoy it too much, please feel free to make this cutout for personal use and gifts for friends, but selling it is just bad karma. I used my brain to make this, use yours to make your own. Copywrite 2007: Cindy Ferguson

I'm so excited! I'm on a squirrel kick now, and your blog inspired me a couple months ago, and here you are doing a video & a squirrel :)

I actually came here to let you know I found a cool Sigg water bottle that screamed Scherenschnitte! at me:

I immediately bought it in Seattle at GI Joe's.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Love your work! Have you ever tried surgical scalpels? They are SO tough. I can never go back to an exacto. So I admire anyone who can command an exacto knife so beautifully.

Okay, hi I'm a dork. But google this one: BD Disposable Blade Knife Handles. It's what I use.

SSRS, was it this one: http://www.mysigg.com/ProductImages/MYSIGG/8064.90.JPG
Oh my gosh, I want it so bad! I wish I still lived in Seattle, I'd go there too!

Left-handed, thanks for the tip. I have been wondering where to buy those. I'm going to invest. They are pretty much the same price as a box of exactos, too.

What a great video! It makes me miss you and your darling unassuming, humble demeanor. Your humility is your saving grace because otherwise you would be too cool and we would all be too intimidated. :)
Miss you..
great squirrel!

Cindy - you need to host a workshop in Salt Lake City at some bed and breakfast and teach this for a whole weekend - I would dream of coming and perhaps if I could scrape together the money I would come - but I know it would be a hit...

Cindy - awesome vid! Isn't a copywrite a copyright? See you on Scrabulous.

I adore all things acorn-related, and so I love, love, love this design and have since you first posted it. I'm totally hoping to make a skirt with this as an applique motif, but would love your permission to publish completed photos on my blog when it's done--will you please contact me and let me know if that'd be OK with you?
