33 years ago this Christmas, a couple weeks after our marriage, my husband gave me an scherenschnitte book to cut out and a pair of scissors. The book was cut out long ago, but my scissors have finally gotten dull. I make a lot of cards with rubber stamps and love to fussy cut (a quilting term that fits, perfectly) and pop up images, probably a left over love from all those years ago. I bought some Cutter Bee's, but they are just not the same. The little cardboard holder for my scissors wore out long ago, so I can't even look on it to see who made them. Do you know where I can get another pair of these scissors?
I'm attaching a pic of the scissors. In tiny letters on side it says "Stainless Pakistan". I love these scissors, but the tips are just worn out after 33 years.
Does anyone have any information for her? I pretty much strictly use an exacto blade. What kinds of scissors do you guys use if you use scissors?
Thanks!
Cindy
This model any more do not let out. Now they look so http://www.createforless.com/Omnigrid+Scissors+Needlecraft+4/pid67352.aspx?utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=cse
ReplyDeleteI use something very similar for beading. Mine say Pakistan on them also. The place I bought mine from no longer sells them, but these look similar: http://www.findingking.com/c-1689-scissors-thread-nippers.aspx. Try searching for beading scissors. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteWhy not try sharpening them?
ReplyDeleteI pretty much use the blade also - but have fallen in love with the cutter bee scissors...but these look like the scissors you'd find in the embroidery section of a craft store...do you know how to sharpen an exacto? I'd LOVE to know!!! Do your dang tips break off often? Seems like I can use the same blade forever and next thing you know break off three in a row within an inch of cutting - what a waste!
ReplyDeleteI just bought swiss papercut's scisors -in Swizerland- but there not as good as the little sewing scisors. Like you i'm still searching the perfect scisors. And i work with cutter...
ReplyDeleteI love the Cutter Bee scissors also.
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me once that a coworker of their's, in a design shop, sharpened his X-acto blades until he wore them completely down. I haven't tried that yet, but I like the thought. jan

I got my scissors from Back Street designs, and they are the best, but not sure where to get them now. I also use an exacto for fine cutting. Both my pairs got broken on the tips. Now i use whatever I find in the craft store.

You can order paper cutting sissors at the web site papwecuttingbyallison I just got a pair the beging of the year but I have changed over to blades now.
ReplyDeleteyou could also try surgical scissors. I have many pairs like that which are used to remove sutures.
ReplyDeleteThose look like they could be found in the embroidery section of a fabric or craft store. I use Gingher embroidery scissors with a curved blade for my paper cutting (if i'm not using an x-acto).
ReplyDeleteI saw these at Michael's today. I forget what section, but they are called Decoupage Scissors. Hope you find them!
ReplyDeleteI have found micro surgical scissors and surgical hemostats are wonderful tools for cutting and detail work.
ReplyDeleteHI there,
ReplyDeleteThey look like embroidery scissors to me, I have a pair that look identical and I bought them at a haberdashery. Any fabric or quilting shop should have them.
these scissors look like they come from an instrument pack (hospital use) --check with medical supply stores.
ReplyDeleteSurgical scissors. I used a pair from my daughter's stitch kit. I saw them about to toss them at the ER and asked for them. I used those for 12 years! I now use a blade as well. I learned with a blade and I have the rare advantage of having worked at a sign company handcutting vinyl for specialty signs and my father works there as well and gets me boxes of blades made by precision blade company. I love them :)
ReplyDeleteI sharpen my exacto blades - I have a whetstone from maybe the 20s, but you can buy them (Lee Valley Tools for one). Make sure it's a really fine one. My blades break instantly too, and I sharpen them and use them for less-detailed work.
